Car Rentals
Q: Do I need a credit card to pick up my rental car?
A: Yes. Even if your rental is prepaid, you’ll need to present a credit card at pickup for the security deposit. For “pay later” rates, a credit card is required to cover both the rental cost and the deposit.
Q: What type of driver’s license is required?
A: A valid driver’s license in the traveler’s name is required. For international rentals, some countries may also require an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Q: Can I add an additional driver?
A: Yes. Most rental companies allow additional drivers, but they must present a valid driver’s license and may need to be added at the rental counter. Some suppliers charge a daily fee for additional drivers.
Q: Are there age restrictions?
A: Many rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 years old. Drivers under 25 may be subject to a young driver fee, depending on the supplier and location. If you are under 25, we suggest renting with Hertz to avoid a young driver fee.
Q: What’s included in my rental rate?
A: Rates typically include the base rental cost and standard mileage allowances. Extras such as GPS, car seats, or toll passes may carry additional charges. Insurance coverage depends on your company’s travel policy and the rental provider.
Q: Can I return the car to a different location?
A: Yes, this is called a one-way rental, but additional fees may apply. Check your itinerary or confirm with support before booking.
Q: What happens if I return the car late?
A: Late returns may result in additional hourly or daily charges. Most suppliers provide a short grace period, but policies vary by location.
Q: Where can I get a receipt for my rental car?
A: Rental car charges appear in your Platinum Travel Portal under “Trips.” For an official receipt, contact support and it will be emailed to you.
Q: What should I do if my rental car is damaged or involved in an accident?
A: Report the incident immediately to authorities and the rental company, then notify Platinum Travel support for assistance. Always obtain a copy of the accident or damage report for your records.
Q: Am I responsible for minor scratches or wear-and-tear?
A: Normal wear-and-tear is generally excluded, but any noticeable damage (scratches, dents, windshield chips) may be charged to your account. Always inspect the vehicle at pickup and drop-off, and document any existing damage.
